Borrow money from my LTD company ?

Main Post:

Hi,

I'm looking to lend my brother some money to help him out.

I've got a surplus of money which will tie him over and he will pay me back in a few months.

It will be sent from my business account, to his personal bank account. When he sends me the money back, it will go from his personal account to my business account.

Apart from the usual having a contract between us, what are the tax implications?

My accountant is saying there is a tax implication which would include that of S455 tax which is at the higher rate of 32.5%. is that correct?

Alternatively I can borrow the money myself and then send it to him.

Any thoughts that would be superb.

Thanks so much,

Yes there is a s455 tax charge if the directors loan account is outstanding at year end.

In addition there is a benefit in kind tax charge if the loan is interest free, if the loan is over £10k (I think).

If you write off the loan that is a deemed dividend.

These rules are all there to stop people avoiding tax by loaning money to themselves and family instead of declaring a dividend.

The rules are pretty fair so they don’t stop you doing it, you just need to understand the implications. Might be easier just to do a dividend and loan personally if the amount is small.

My LTD EC-1000 has a confusing volume knob / pickup selector layout. Is this normal?

Main Post:

A little background on the guitar: 1 tone knob, 2 volume knobs, one for each pickup.

This is how it's wired right now:

http://i.imgur.com/gQtgg.jpg

  • The volume knob on the left controls the volume for the neck pickup (on the right).
  • The volume knob on the right controls the volume for the bridge pickup.

To me this is exactly reversed of how I feel it should be... Is this how it's supposed to be wired?

And on top of that, the pickup selector seems to be wrong as well. I would like it to be tilted the other direction, since it'd be easier to flip it while strumming. Also, it being closer to the neck (pointing up) should select the neck pickup.

Is this something I'll just have to get used to? I opened the back, and the volume knobs are soldered, so I can't just switch them around. :(

[GEAR] NGD got my first bass (ESP LTD B-15)

Main Post:

Today my first bass guitar arrived, really happy with it. I have been playing both guitar and bass during my teenage years and picked up guitar again a couple months ago, ended up getting my dream guitar! It's been a lot of fun. Can't wait to get my bass set up properly, there's quite some fret buzz in the lower end.

70 Ltd companies registered at my home address in the last month

Main Post:

Hello,

I live in England

I started receiving letters, loads of them, for all different companies from a couple of weeks ago.

I called up companies House (CH) and they weren't interested at all.

Checked on CH website and 70 companies have been registered or had their address changed in the last few weeks.

I dont know how or why all these companies are being registered at my home address.

Other than the letters, how could this affect me?

Any insight appreciated

Update 1:

I looked into company directors, 95% of them are people based in the Philippines, the rest are listed as being British, however they have very foreign sounding names.

Most of the companies were incorporated on 16th Feb 2022, and look to all have changed their correspondence address to mine in the last few weeks.

All the companies I've looked at have never filed accounts, most have 1-2 people listed under people on CH.

All sounding like a massive international fraud ring tbh

Update 2:

Had an interesting conversation with Graham Barrow this morning, I have some follow up steps to complete. Will update more as I know more, in for a minefield.

Update 3: 20/02/23

40 letters came through my door this morning! They're gonna have to give my postman a raise at this point.

My End Game - Campfire Andromeda Ltd.

After over a good month with Shure SE846 (upgraded from 5 years with SE535) I ended up selling it because something is missing on the treble side (to my ear at least). Tried out the Andromeda and man does she sing with harmonic quality. Not saying that Andromeda is better than SE846, They are just two different IEMs and I glad I ended up with Andromeda.
